The "Occupy" movement is arguably the largest open tribal system in the history of humanity. Whatever quinn might currently think, it is obviouslly the furthest we have yet stepped in our now half-century old effort to walk away from our own prison: hierarchy.

I see that this movement has already gotten mentioned here.

May us who are B be there for the mainstream as they become more and more ready to hear what we have to say:

Walk away.

May we not suddenly become polemic in this time of such great possibility.

May we not argue, but wait patiently for our voices to be heard...

... 4 what actually makes more sense to BECOME the 99%.

I"ve been involved in the Occupy Wall Street movement and have spent many hours at Occupy Portland.

Our camp has a functioning library where I've donatedtwo of Quinn's books. They were gone quickly and I have no idea where they ended up but would recommend this approach to others who want to spread Quinn's message.

The folks at #OWS are hungry for information and resources. I hope you'll go buy a copy of Ishmael and donate it to your local occupation site.

Finally, a Quinn reference in mainstream many of us have been looking for years? Last month I blindly suggested that SEX AT DAWN would be important for ishy-minded folks to pay attention to. And here I am today, finally bothering to actually have a LOOK at the BOOK. Hmmm: smelling something ishmaelian by page 5.... that's interesting. So, do my usual check, and HOLY COW! They actually bothered to reference him, right there on pg 373: Quinn, D. (1995). ISHMAEL: An Adventure of the Mind and Spirit.

Laid off from a medical clinic back in July of this year. A counselor referred me to Ishmael and I was intrigued. After reading it I of course became more intrigued. So I read The Story of B, then My Ishmael, then, The Holy, then, After Dachau, then Providence, then Beyond Civilization, and I have Tales of Adam on my bed table. You could say I am a true addict but I have never read so much of one author in my life. Daniel's work resonates at a deep level and I want to connect with others who are challenged as I am by the work. Daniel has freed me from the chains and confines of Christianity, for which I am grateful. A coptic priest whom I recently met asked me if I was a Christian. I meant no malice but spoke with confidence that, "I was!" in the past tense. It was very freeing to speak honestly about it. So much of Daniel's work has helped me, but I am struggling with the "tribe" even though I understand the brilliance of it, I don't see my own part in it as yet. I hope I have connected correctly and that Daniel knows how much I appreciate what he has done. My regards.

Destry seeks comments: ...any advice for someone reading the book FLOW? Csikszentmihaly's observations are confusingly in and out of synch with what I learned in Ishmael. Maybe I can answer my own question, because the "flow" of the tribal life, emulated by itself, reminds me of the Crystals of Rapanah.

To read the parable:Look to the left under THINGS TO READ, click on PARABLES, go to Crystals of Rapanah.

I am B. I have read a lot (not all, but a lot) of Daniel Quinn's work and as hard as it is to step away from being a pupil and become a teacher and a leader that is what I need to do. I don't know if I have everything correct but I will succeed at the ideas I took away from Daniel Quinn that are the closest to my heart and spread the word and teach others and make an impact on the world. If we all do something, anything, great or small, the change WILL come.

Works like Ishmael lift us into place so that we may do OUR work (of cultural excavation?)...

Many thanks are due to Daniel Quinn. Having just finished reading Ishmael, My Ishmael, and the Story of B, I am feeling quite like a child who has just become aware of the world outside its eyesight. I truly think that the Story of B, specifically, might be the most direction-changing thought since Plato's "The Cave."

The one place where I struggled most with these books: I don't see how any of this is contradictory to anything that Jesus actually talked about. Oh sure, it's quite contradictory to most of what "the Church" teaches about Jesus; but, the actual Jesus seems, to me, to be calling for the same thing with different words. Anyway -- that's something to be worked on over time. I'm just grateful that someone put these books into my hand in the hopes that I would think -- I guess my signing this guestbook is admission of at least the first step of that thought.

Long live B.

Last post for a while:

I'm sitting here in a Barnes on a borrowed iphone. I've been reading a book all day. I think this one is very special. I think it might actually be my long sought companion-piece to ISHMAEL: a book that can help me change the way I think about other individual humans the way Quinn's works have helped me change the ways I think about people in general and the world of which we are a function (Earth, of course ;).

The book is really ABOUT reality itself, but for reasons likely wise it's called simply (or modestly if you will) LEADERSHIP AND SELF-DECEPTION: GETTING OUT OF THE BOX

I just saw a great film I think all Ishmael fans will appreciate called "How to Boil a Frog." The video explains our problems in terms of overshoot and collapse.

The video is done in a style somewhat like "Bill Nye the Science Guy" though I could be wrong in that comparison. It is understandable by people of any age and includes REAL action steps.

I just checked online and the price is $15 to buy your own copy. If you can afford it, this would be a great investment.

It really is one of the best "mind-changing" movies I've seen in awhile and as I said, accessible to all.
