Somebody near Waynesville, North Carolina, put a lot of effort into creating this Ishmael calling card painted in letters about five feet high on the highway divider on routes 19 and 23. The sign stayed up through most of May and June 2000. But the state highway department eventually whitewashed over it and blotted it out.
We're indebted to Carrie and Tom Meister for sending us the photo and alerting us to this demonstration that Ishmael isn't going to disappear.
If you come across manifestations of this sort, or interesting Ishmael grafitti, etc., please send us a photo and information. You can send it to PO Box 66627, Houston, TX 77266-6627, or email it with a photo attachment to email@example.com. We know that people are driving around with Ishmael license plates in various states, and we expect there are other examples of Ishmael-mania as well.
