The Ishmael Community: Questions and Answers

The Question (ID Number 113)...

When it comes down to it, B seems to have a pro-segregation and pro-violence subtext. Gangs would classify as tribes inasmuch as they stick together and use violence when necessary to defend their territory and their way of life. Can Leaver people exist in harmony not just with the world but with each other in multicultural peace?

    ...and the response:

When it comes down to it, evolutionary biology itself seems to have a pro-segregation and pro-violence subtext. Does that make it wicked? Gangs have some tribal features, as you note. They miss being truly tribal by lacking biological continuity; that is, their members are recruited into the group, not born into it. You ask if Leaver peoples can exist in harmony not just with the world but with each other in multicultural peace. Conflict among Leaver peoples is not "multicultural war," so who says they do not enjoy "multicultural peace"?
