The Ishmael Community: Questions and Answers

The Question (ID Number 395)...

I am making a web page with some chapters of your books. This is ok, right? I have given credit to you, of course. I was also wondering about a summary of Ishmael (like the summaries on the backs of The Story of B and My Ishmael) and also about excerpts from all three books I could use for the page.

    ...and the response:

I'm afraid it's NOT okay. My publisher, Bantam Books, has the exclusive license to publish these works, and they alone could give you permission to print the excerpts you have in mind. Although they might give you that permission (for a lot of money), it's very unlikely, I think. The summaries on the backs are another matter. No one will object if you use those.
