The Ishmael Community: Questions and Answers

The Question (ID Number 487)...

In Beyond Civilization, you make it clear that you're not suggesting we just abandon our civilization, like the Maya and other peoples did. But I've noticed that on your t-shirts, you say to "walk away." Are you advocating a physical abandonment of our Taker culture, or something else?

    ...and the response:

The reference is not to "our Taker culture" but to the pyramid over which the words "walk away" are superimposed. In Beyond Civilization, I argue that it's possible to walk away from the wage slavery of slogging stones up the Microsoft pyramid, the McDonald's pyramid, the General Motors pyramid, and so on, by "going tribal."
