The Question (ID Number 49)...

    Don't we need to abandon technology if we're going to save the world?

    ...and the response:

    Technology is not the problem (please don't confuse what I'm saying with the simple-minded Luddism of the Unabomber). We are, as Ishmael points out, captives of a civilizational system that more or less compels us to destroy the world in order to live. Although I certainly have one foot (and all my body) planted inside that prison, the other foot is planted outside. I need help (we ALL need help) in shifting my weight from one foot to the other. It may not be easy to see how this is to be done---but "not easy" isn't the same as impossible.
