The Ishmael Community: Questions and Answers

The Question (ID Number 51)...

Would we be able to integrate our knowledge of the sciences and such into a Leaver society? Or would our technology make it harder for us to get back to the Leaver's mentality/story?

    ...and the response:

The Leaver's mentality/story is not something "back there." Naturally Mother Culture likes to call them "Stone Age" peoples, but this is a typical sort of lie; the surviving Leavers of the world are living in 1997, not in the Stone Age. They and their mentality and story are as much alive and modern as ours are. And they were technologists for hundreds of thousands of years before our culture was born; wherever they're found, all Leaver peoples have technologies of their own---not necessarily technologies like ours, energy-devouring behemoths capable of wiping out cities and destroying mountains, but rather quite subtle and delicate technologies with more modest objectives. Check out Jack Weatherford's books on this subject.
