...and the response:The Olympic symbol, five linked rings, is intended to represent the sporting friendship of all peoples, hopefully superceding political hostilities, which it does, for the most part. Uniting the nations of the world is far beyond the reach of the Olympics. Although nations compete at the Olympics, they do so athletically, not militarily, so I see no grounds for viewing the Olympics as "a way for the nations of the world to fight each other."
