The Ishmael Community: Questions and Answers

The Question (ID Number 75)...

Are you aware of the Neo-Pagan movement and other modern-day animistic movements, and how do you feel about them?

    ...and the response:

Paganism is a religion that grew up among the farmers of our culture---it is essentially a farmer's religion. Animism is something else entirely. The fact that it's often confused with paganism shows how little it's understood by the people of our culture, who have a vague perception of it as "something primitive" and as a crude forerunner of "real" religion. I had two or three major goals I wanted to accomplish in THE STORY OF B; one of them was to shed some light on animism.
