...and the response:The strategy of Erratic Retaliation is not in any sense a universal strategy for dealing with intraspecific competition. For example, many other species observe a pecking order strategy to keep the peace; individuals lower in the order tend to give in to individuals higher in the order, so Erratic Retaliation would serve no purpose.
