The Ishmael Community: Questions and Answers

The Question (ID Number 244)...

I was wondering if you were familiar with terms categorizing societies by the negative emotional driving force behind them... Such as our own modern Western society as being a "guilt based" society, derived from the negative emotional consequence that follows from doing what is considered wrong, and in fact defining what is wrong. Or the ancient Greek culture as one that is "shame based" for the same reason. And also, what your thoughts are on how most Leaver cultures have operated (if there is any standard at all). And how important such a standard may be in recreating a Leaver life style today.

    ...and the response:

I'm familiar with the terms but they play no part in my own thinking. You might say I'm not interested in working at this scale of examination, which I'm glad to leave to professional anthropologists.
