The Ishmael Community: Questions and Answers

The Question (ID Number 768)...

Of your books, only Ishmael is available in the language of my country. I'm sure there would be great reader interest in having translations of The Story of B, My Ishmael, and others of your books. Is this something you or your publisher can arrange or at least encourage?

    ...and the response:

I'm afraid there is nothing at all that I or my publisher can do to prompt or encourage publishers in other countries to translate and publish my books. On the other hand, publishers in your country might possibly be responsive if you and other readers let them know about books you would like to have them produce. If Ishmael has been published in your language, you (and others of like mind) should definitely contact that publisher about your interest in having other books of mine translated.

Publishers in your country aren't interested in what I want, but they're certainly interested in what their own readers want!
