2011 International Conference on Sustainability, Transition & Culture Change, Nov. 10-14

Vision, Action, Leadership is the theme for this year's conference to be held at Shanty Creek Resorts, Bellaire, Michigan. It's the fifth conference organized by Local Future, a nonprofit educational organization founded by Aaron Wissner. In his letter about it, Aaron said: "The focus is, of course, Daniel's work. I've read Daniel's books over the summer to make sure I was in the right frame of mind before setting out to put things together." That said, Aaron and his associates have collected a varied group of participants/presenters who will "explore together visions for the future in areas of sustainability, peak oil, climate change, economics, politics, renewable energy, food security, transition towns, bioregionalism, permaculture, compassionate living and culture change."

One of the major participants is Tim Bennett, creator of the film What a Way to Go. Tim's focus will be "The River of Vision," and he expects to weave together ideas he's gleaned from Daniel's work (in particular The Story of B and Beyond Civilization) and that of others who've influenced him throughout his life. His aim during his participation in this conference, he said was not to speak for Daniel or to represent him in some authoritative way, but to bring him into the room as a living, vital soul whose work "lives and grows in me....taking the way of seeing that you first showed me was possible and focusing it on the matters of vision, action, and leadership on which the conference is focused."

The conference starts Thursday, November 10 and ends Monday, November 14. If you can't attend the whole conference, you can sign up for the "core hours" of Friday through Sunday. And if you act before midnight October 7, you qualify for the early registration rate.
