How did Ishmael get himself installed in an office building?

Ishmael did these things SOMEHOW. if I had been writing a plot-driven form such as a murder mystery or an action-thriller, I would have had to fill in these “plot holes”; as it is, I don’t really care how he did these things (and neither do most readers). It’s imaginable that he did them SOMEHOW—and that suffices.
