I’d really like to get behind your ideas, but I wish I was sure you’re not just in it for the money.
There once was a young man who loved beautiful women. Every time he met one, he’d say, “Boy, I’m really attracted to your body. The trouble is, are you a whore? I know that women as beautiful as you are almost always whores, but if you can convince me that you don’t just sell your body for money, then you can count on me.” I sometimes hear from readers who are like this. They say they’re really attracted to my ideas, but the trouble is, am I a whore? They know that successful authors are almost always whores, but if I can convince them that I don’t just write for money, then I can count on their support. Like the man in the parable, they really seem to believe that this is a great way to get acquainted.
