It doesn't seem as "important" as your other books - but not everything you write has to be! Despite the lengthy introduction, I'm still a bit curious: What prompted you to pursue this project? It doesn’t seem as “important” as your other books – but not everything you write has to be! Despite the lengthy introduction, I’m still a bit curious: What prompted you to pursue this project? Would it be appropriate to approach it similarly to “Flatland,” a tale about a different realm of existence that comments on how we might make our own better?

The Newcomer’s Guide was a holiday from serious work. I trust readers will not be too scandalized that I occasionally take time off to do something for fun. I read FLATLAND many decades ago and I’m sure the experience influenced the Newcomer’s Guide (which is NOT, however, intended as a comment on how we might make anything better).
