It took half a century for the ideas of Sigmund Freud to reach the non-reading masses—but they DID reach them. It should be noted that they don’t think of them as having come from Freud or anyone else; by the time they “trickled down” to the non-reading masses they were just “what everybody knows.”
The same will happen to the ideas contained in Ishmael and The Story of B, but it will happen much more quickly. (During its first four years, Freud’s first book reached fewer than a thousand people. During its first four years, Ishmael is already in the hands of more than 125,000.)
